Frequently Asked Questions
FEES
What do my annual membership dues include?
Annual membership dues primarily cover coaching and pool time for your swimmer's scheduled training sessions.
Will there be other expenses in addition to the membership dues?
Yes. Annual membership dues do not include:
- Seasonal Equipment Fee (due at registration)
- Swimming Canada & Swim Nova Scotia Registration (due at registration)
- Meet entry fees, charged for each meet your swimmer is declared for.
- Travel and accommodation for out-of-province competitions.
- Swimsuits and additional team apparel.
- Additional training equipment, such as fins, a snorkel, kickboard, and paddles.
- Social events and fundraising activities.
How will my fees be adjusted if my swimmer changes groups?
Membership fees are prorated based on the date of the group change.
If my child does not attend a meet, will our meet fees be reduced?
No. Once a swimmer has been declared for a meet and the declaration deadline has passed (as outlined in the club calendar), the full meet entry fee is the responsibility of the swimmer, regardless of attendance.
What equipment does my swimmer need and where do I purchase it?
Check our Equipment page—requirements vary by group.
We partner with LY Sports , who list gear each August in the portal.
I missed a month of swimming. Can my membership fees be reduced?
No (with exception of Extenuating Circumstances) Membership with HTAC is an annual commitment. Families may choose to pay their annual membership dues in full at registration or in 10 monthly installments.
Monthly installments are simply a payment option and do not represent the cost of a single month of swimming. If a swimmer withdraws before the end of the membership year, a balance may still be owing, even if all installment payments are current.
Please refer to the Membership Dues Policy for complete details regarding payment schedules, withdrawals, and outstanding balances.
GROUP PLACEMENT
What level will my child swim at & how do they move?
Initial Group Placements
Group placement is determined by coaching staff and is based on a number of factors including, age, performance, work ethic, attendance and more. To view the Squad Placement Guidelines click here.
Early Season Movement
First month is fluid; coaches may suggest early moves based on performance & fit.
In Season Group Moves
Squad placements are based on the club's placement criteria and available space within each squad. While performance times are an important consideration, they do not automatically guarantee a move.
In some cases, coaches may recommend a hybrid training schedule that allows a swimmer to "swim up" with a higher squad for selected practices without making a full squad change.
Move Periods
Changes align with season breaks: December, January & March Break. Summer reviews set next September’s placements.
