The Senior Program supports athletes through the advanced stages of competitive swimming. Each squad provides a distinct training environment based on the athlete’s goals, development, performance level, and commitment to the sport.

Elite

The Elite squad is the club's highest-performance training group, designed for athletes committed to swimming as their priority sport. The program prepares athletes for provincial and national competition within a high-performance environment that emphasizes excellence, accountability, and leadership.

Expectations

Commitment

  • Attend all assigned pool and dryland sessions.
  • Attend all priority competitions unless otherwise approved.

Communication

  • Athletes must communicate directly with the Head Coach.
  • Planned absences must be emailed in advance.

Team Culture

  • Lead by example through attitude, work ethic, and professionalism.
  • Support teammates and represent HTAC positively.

Squad Selection

  • Elite squad placement is based on the club's published selection criteria and the Head Coach's discretion.
  • Elite squad placements are reviewed annually.

Squad Pathway

  • Athletes typically progress to Elite from Senior Atlantic or Junior Elite.
  • Elite athletes typically progress to university swimming, remain in Elite, or transition to another squad based on their individual goals, development, and program fit.
  • Movement to Elite may occur throughout the season based on performance, development, and the Head Coach's discretion.
  • Athletes are encouraged to speak with the Head Coach if another squad within the club would better support their goals and development.

Senior Atlantic

The Senior Atlantic squad is designed for athletes committed to continued development in a performance training environment. The program prepares athletes to compete successfully at the provincial and East Coast level while building the habits required for future national-level competition.

The Senior Provincial squad is designed for athletes who are developing their competitive swimming skills while balancing other activities and commitments. The program provides a flexible training environment for swimmers pursuing local and provincial competition, with opportunities to progress to higher-performance squads over time.
